AHE’EY’S SECRETS

Six Years Later: 1878 - Ahe’ey

Sathian sensed that sooner or later he would lose access to the Ange’el ancient knowledge repository. He knew there was no way the rulers of Ahe’ey would allow him to remain celibate. His seed was too valuable and his position at Ahe’ey too high and influential. So he worked day and night to retrieve as much information as he could, excited by the knowledge and the possibilities of what he might discover next. He marvelled at the achievements of his ancestors and still hoped to find the key to the genome of the royal family.

Someone knocked at the door.

“Sathian?” It was Alice, one of the cooks. She was a high ranking Ange’el, but her blood was not pure and due to this she was denied access to the library. Sathian used his ring to open the door and took the tray with the soup from her hands, placing it on the table behind him. He jumped towards her, grabbed her by the waist and lifted her off her feet. He danced around the room, spinning with her with elegance, lightness and happiness.

“Put me down Sathian. I’m not allowed in this room.”

“Nonsense. Ignore the silly rules; you deserve to be here as much as I do.”

“You changed your tune? What is going on with you today?” She asked. Her fair translucent skin turned rosy with his kiss, and her eyelashes fluttered flirtatiously.

“I found a map Alice. A map of Ahe’ey.”

She adjusted her straw-coloured hair as he put her down. “You have to eat; you can’t spend all day locked in this room.” He ignored her. His eyes and his mind were lost somewhere in the map that was projecting out of a crystal into the transparent surface that stood in front of him. Alice brushed his long dark stray hairs away from his face.

“Look,” he said pointing to the map.

“I’m not allowed to look. Do you want to get me in trouble?” She kept her eyes away from the map. “Remember to go out and enjoy some sun darling,” she said before rushing to leave the room, closing the door behind her.

The Ange’el’s eyes scanned the map as if he was looking for hidden treasure. Sathian’s heart missed a beat as he looked at what seemed to be a secret chamber located deep within the Sma’aragdus cave system. Sma’aragdus lay under the slopes of the Ka’alama Mountain, an old extinct volcano positioned on the north side of Ahe’ey, beyond the Yi’ingo village. At more than a hundred and eighty metres high, a hundred metres wide and ten kilometres long, the cave had its own flowing river and a hidden forest that thrived with the little sunlight that managed to infiltrate the entry of the cave. Sathian had visited the Sma’aragdus caves many times but never before noticed the hidden chamber marked on the map. On closer observation, he saw what it looked to be: a human-made well that descended vertically just beside the entry of the cave, straight into the chamber.
